CHIQUITA ADMITTED PAYING PROTECTION MONEY
The United States company Chiquita Brands International has admitted in court to paying protection money to a Colombian terrorist organization. Chiquita has agreed to pay twenty-five million dollars in fines. The court will announce its sentence on June first. Government lawyers say the company made more than one hundred payments to the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia between nineteen ninety-seven and two thousand four.
